Basic Power Distribution Unit (PDU) is a device used in data centers, server rooms, or other IT environments to distribute electrical power to multiple pieces of equipment from a single source. Basic PDUs are designed for cost efficient and reliable power distribution in data centers. It can be used in an A/B Circuit configuration but does not supply any extra features other than power distribution.

Monitored Power Distribution Unit (PDU) offers advanced features for managing and monitoring electrical power distribution in data centers, server rooms, and other critical IT environments. Unlike basic PDUs, monitored PDUs provide real-time data and insights into power usage, which helps ensure efficient operation and aids in troubleshooting and preventive maintenance. Monitored PDUs feature branch circuit protection and are available in a variety of voltages and amperages. These smart PDUs also provide automated alerts for power and environmental conditions.
This Intelligent PDU, also known as Smart PDU, IP PDU, or Metered PDU, enables remote monitoring of the PDU’s status, current draw down to the outlet level, and historical trends. It also offers remote on/off switching functionality for outlets. Access to these models is typically achieved through dedicated remote access software, a web-based GUI, or third-party DCIM systems via SNMP V2/V3.
